A Revolutionary Mall Concept for Product and Fashion Design in Basel

Where do you go if you want to see what’s happening in the young designers‘ scene in Basel? Don’t really know? Now there is a new opening: the Young Designers‘ Mall exhibits the latest news in design. And that’s not all: the designers work as their own agents in their own shop. A revolutionary platform, Young Designers‘ Mall creates space for the young and uprising.

Sacha Roche, former co-founder of SHIFT Festival in Basel, is launching a new project. Two associations are involved: the goal of Basic is the detection of free unused urban space. Resolute aims at making those spaces accessible to cultural projects. Both associations were founded by Roche, and both have played their role in putting the basis for the new mall.

The Young Designers‘ Mall will be built of overseas containers. Contrary to known applications like these, the containers here will be assembled in a way which ensures boundary-free moving without altering the containers. The result is an appealing module-based tower consisting of approximately twenty separate spaces which can host up to sixty single slots for designers in total. Every slot works as a stall for one designer. Products are sold without commission, and there is a single manned checkout. The Mall will additionally host a small cafe/meetingpoint. Spaces of five sqm are available from CHF 97.- per month, but the run is high.

The Young Designers‘ Mall will open on 1st of August 2009 in NT-Areal in Basel. Contact Sacha Roche for more information on available spaces, terms and conditions.
